Bristol Reggae Orchestra is a registered charity [1180167]. We welcome donations, no matter how large or small.
The Orchestra was established in 2011 to reach out to diverse communities living in Bristol, extending opportunities for music making to excluded groups while creating high quality creative outputs and inclusive performances. We’ve always had lots of people who want to sing, but limited space for soloists.
On Windrush Day 2022 (June 22nd) we launched a Windrush Reggae Choir. We received a Windrush Day Grant to run this as a 6-month project.
The funding supported us to create a fabulous new St Paul’s based choir with a wonderful leader (Orgena Rose). Local composers wrote two new Windrush themed songs and we prepared for a gala performance at Bristol Beacon during Black History Month.
We’d LOVE to keep the choir going. Please donate anything you can to keep the Windrush Reggae choir singing with the UK’s only community-based reggae orchestra.
Connections or ideas are also welcome instead of money. Email choir@bristolreggaeorchestra.com
"The orchestra increases members’ confidence. We have some singers who joined the orchestra having never performed on a public stage before. They were terrified. Now the quality of their performance and the way they move on stage is completely different. But the most important thing to come from the orchestra is a really strong sense of community among the members. People really look out for each other and support each other, not just musically, but through some of the serious challenges that members have faced.”
